Asbestos Awareness Training

ARE YOU AT RISK?

As a result of years of use before its ban in 1989, many of Australia's buildings are littered with the toxic material - capable of causing cancers and other health-related issues. Do you have the potential to come into contact with asbestos in your line of work? Asbestos Awareness training is essential for any worker in construction or related industries. The Asbestos Awareness Course (10314NAT) is a legal requirement to work on building and construction sites in the ACT, and is also likely to become so in NSW, VIC, QLD, WA, SA and TAS. Capital Training Institute is one of a handful of registered providers of the 10314NAT Asbestos Awareness course. This is a national certification that is recognised in all states and territories..

Types of asbestos

There are six types of asbestos, each with their own unique properties, both chemically and visually. Part of good asbestos management is understanding and being able to identify the various types of asbestos. Through Capital Training Institute's short course, students will develop insight into the various types of asbestos and be able to apply best practice towards each one.

Health knowledge

One of the problems with asbestos exposure is that the health effects can only emerge many years into the future. As this is the case, knowing the health risks, effects and preventative measures associated with asbestos exposure is of the utmost importance. This includes information about what the first symptoms of exposure are and how to mitigate risk to both yourself and others.

Legislative focus

Although asbestos was banned in Australia many years ago, the country is still dealing with long-standing problems associated with the fibres. As such, law makers and environmental protection authorities consistently make changes to the law in order to protect the workers and the general public. Course participants are taught how to understand the relevant legislation and where it fits into their duty of care. Amendments are made constantly so knowing what needs to occur across your industry is key.
