Why is asbestos awareness training important for construction workers?

Asbestos is a highly dangerous building material known to cause a series of health issues including asbestosis, lung cancer and mesothelioma. If you have a job in construction, being able to accurately identify and report asbestos containing materials not only protects your health but the health and safety of your clients too. Many cases of asbestos related illnesses in Australia have occurred from unaware homeowners undertaking DIY projects that have unknowingly exposed them to asbestos. Even a one time exposure can wreak havoc on your lungs, which is why it’s so important for workers in high risk environments to be able to accurately identify potential hazards. As of 2011, all employees who work in construction are required have an asbestos awareness certificate by an approved nationally accredited provider prior to entering a construction site.
