How to Attend Online Classes and What to Expect
Universities, schools, and training organisations around the world are quickly switching to digital learning to keep up with the constantly shifting lockdown laws. For many students who are not experienced in online learning, it can be a tricky transition.
This blog aims to make stepping into online learning with CTI easier and shed some light on the steps our students take to begin their Certificate, Diploma, or Advanced Diploma in Building and Construction.
Currently, the Certificate IV in Building and Construction (Building) – CPC40110, the Diploma of Building and Construction (Building) – CPC50210, and the Advanced Diploma of Building and Construction (Management) – CPC60212 are all run online through our interactive live-streamed program.
David, who completed a Certificate IV in Building and Construction a few months ago, left a review about his online learning experience below.

Read on for the steps you can take to attend your first online CTI class.
How to attend your first online CTI Building and Construction Class
1. Send in the relevant forms
Once you have decided on a class date and are ready to begin, your Learning Consultant will provide you with the enrolment forms. Once you have filled them out, the Learning Consultant will send them to our Admin team, who process the documents and set up an interview with the trainer.
2. Complete an interview
The trainer will then interview you over the phone and ask about your experience in the construction industry. This typically takes an hour. We include an interview to make sure that all our students have the correct amount of experience to complete an accelerated course.
For example, our accelerated Certificate IV in Building and Construction course can only be completed by individuals with a minimum of 2-3 years of practical experience in the industry.
When you sit down for class, you’re among like-minded people who want to further their career and/or business. An additional benefit of this course design is that it is fantastic for networking; all the students in the class are aiming for similar goals, such as Builder’s Licence, Site Supervisor and more.
Once you have been approved for the class, you can begin preparing for it by downloading our virtual classroom program: Zoom.
3. Download Zoom for your computer or phone
You can download Zoom here for your computer or here for your phone/iPad2,3. Most computers will use the first option on the webpage, Zoom Client for Meetings.

Once you have installed Zoom and opened it, you should get a similar main menu to the one below.

Once you have installed Zoom, you can relax and wait for the next email from our admin team.
4. The Day Before your Class, check your email for a Zoom Link
The day before class begins, we will send an email to you. Make sure to check your inbox and, if the email is not there, the junk folder of your email.
This email comes with a link to the Zoom meeting and a username and password.
5. Before Class begins, click on the provided email link.
About 10 minutes before your class begins, click on the Zoom meeting link. When prompted to by Zoom, enter the email and password provided in the email. Once you have successfully entered the username and password, you will be connected to the virtual classroom.
And that’s it! You are now ready to start online learning. Your trainer will explain how to set up your virtual learning account at the Capital Training Institute online portal during this first lecture. If you have any questions about getting online learning ready, your trainer, learning consultant, and the CTI staff are happy to help.
Before you know it, you will be experiencing online learning, complete with lectures and self-study.

What does a week of online learning look like?
If you are studying the Certificate IV in Building and Construction (Building) – CPC40110, the Diploma of Building and Construction (Building) – CPC50210, or the Advanced Diploma of Building and Construction (Management) – CPC60212, the online learning experience will be similar.
These construction courses consist of 1 workshop per week and self-study outside of this workshop.
The workshops are run via Zoom for 1 night per week. All these classes are run after work hours, from 5:00 PM to 9:00 PM AEST (Australian Eastern Standard Time). Since many of our students are working while they study, an evening workshop allows them to fit this qualification into their day.
Outside of the workshop day, students also complete self-study and assessment. This is delivered over the CTI online portal. Your trainer will explain it in greater detail at your first lecture. Hopefully, this blog will help you get to that first lecture.
Conclusion
Online learning has become a necessary part of millions of people’s lives around the world. But, with CTI’s trainers and learning support team, getting started is easy.
